Members of the Chicago Navy Memorial Foundation were instrumental in organizing the City of Chicago’s Memorial Day observance on May 25, 2024. The Foundation arranged for Rear Admiral Zeita Merchant of the U.S. Coast Guard to serve as the grand marshal of the event and nominated Andre King for the prestigious Logan Award.  Memorial Day, observed annually to honor and remember the men and women who have died while serving in our nation’s Armed Forces, is a significant occasion for paying tribute to their ultimate sacrifice. The Logan Award, named in honor of General John A. Logan, founder of Memorial Day, recognizes individuals for their outstanding contributions to the community and to the values of service and sacrifice. Pictured here, Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson presented the Logan Award to Andre King, acknowledging his exceptional dedication and contributions to community and service to country.
